How this itinerary was built
We read the price and duration of every bookable Siargao trip. Two things separate it from everywhere else we index.
The price floor is PHP 500 for a coconut farm tour and the median is PHP 1,500 - against a PHP 1,850 floor in Puerto Princesa and a PHP 3,800 median on Mactan. Siargao is the cheapest island we sell.
And the durations are unique. Everywhere else the field reads "full day" or "half day". Siargao is the only destination where operators list products in days: a three-day eco surf camp at PHP 1,800 and a two-day surf and yoga camp at PHP 2,500. Nobody sells a multi-day camp on Panglao.
Why three days is the wrong answer here
Sayak airport takes direct flights from Cebu (about an hour) and Manila (about 2h 30m), or you arrive by ferry from Surigao City to Dapa. Either way arrival and departure eat two days.
On a three-night visit that is two of your days spent moving, leaving one. The camps priced at PHP 600 a day exist because operators expect people to stay - and the maths only works if you do.
Five nights: the real minimum
Day 1 - arrive, look at Cloud 9. The boardwalk at General Luna is the image that sells Siargao. The break itself is a serious reef wave and no place to learn.
Day 2 - surf lesson. PHP 800 for two hours, and beginners are taken to sandier, more forgiving breaks nearby rather than to Cloud 9. Do this early in the trip: two hours tells you whether you want the rest of your mornings on a board.
Day 3 - tri-island hopping. Naked, Daku and Guyam, PHP 1,200-1,500 for six to eight hours. Naked Island is a bare sandbar with no shade at all - bring cover, because there is none to buy.
Day 4 - Magpupungko and the mangroves. The PHP 900 mangrove paddle combined with the Magpupungko rock pools is the trip fewer people book. The pools only work at low tide, so ask the operator which day the tide suits rather than picking a date and hoping.
Day 5 - surf or the coconut farm. PHP 500 for three hours through the coconut forest that covers most of the island, or another morning on a board.
Seven nights: Sohoton and a camp
Days 6-7. Sohoton Cove at PHP 1,500 is the longest day in the inventory and it does not happen on Siargao - Bucas Grande is about two hours away by boat, and the cove entrance is tide-gated, so boats can only pass under the rock arch at certain water levels.
Put it mid-trip rather than on your last day: a delayed return puts a flight at risk. The stingless jellyfish lagoons are the reason people go and they are seasonal rather than guaranteed.
Otherwise use the week for a camp. Three days of eco surf camp at PHP 1,800 or two days of surf and yoga at PHP 2,500 is what this island is actually built around.
Surf season and typhoons come together
Siargao sits on the eastern Pacific approach, where storms arrive first. Surf season runs roughly August to November, which overlaps the most active part of the typhoon calendar - the swell and the storms come from the same weather.
March to June is calmer, hotter and easier for beginners, with smaller waves. Check PAGASA before travelling in the second half of the year, and treat a flight to a small island airport as cancellable in a way a Manila flight is not.
What most guides get wrong about a Siargao itinerary
The first error is the three-day Siargao trip. Transit takes two days and the inventory is priced for people who stay.
The second is describing Cloud 9 as a beginner spot because it is the famous one. It is a reef break, and the operators themselves teach elsewhere.
The third is calling Siargao expensive because it is fashionable. On our numbers it is the cheapest island we index: entry PHP 500, median PHP 1,500.
Getting around the island
General Luna is the main base and most accommodation sits along or behind the Cloud 9 stretch. Habal-habal motorbike taxis and rented scooters are the normal way to move, and the roads are quiet enough that this is the default rather than an adventurous choice.
Dapa, where the ferry lands, is about forty minutes from General Luna. If you arrive by boat rather than by air, that transfer is the difference between arriving in time for an afternoon and arriving for dinner.
The camps, and why the maths favours them
A three-day camp at PHP 1,800 works out at PHP 600 a day - less than a single day trip almost anywhere else in the Philippines. Operators only price like that when they expect guests to stay put.
That is the practical argument for five nights over three. Siargao is not a place you extract sights from on a schedule; the inventory is built around people who arrive, take a board out most mornings, and fill the afternoons loosely.
What the island costs beyond activities
Accommodation has risen sharply as Siargao became fashionable, and that is the real budget line rather than the tours. The activities remain the cheapest we index; the beds do not.
Cash matters here too. ATMs exist in General Luna and Dapa but run dry at busy periods, and many smaller places do not take cards. Arrive with more pesos than you think you need.
