About this tour

Somewhere beneath the limestone hills of Calbiga, Western Samar, lies one of the most extraordinary underground worlds on Earth. The Langun-Gobingob Cave System — two interconnected caves forming a single system over 2.9 kilometres long and 260 metres deep — is the largest cave in the Philippines, the second-largest in Asia, and one of the most remarkable spelunking destinations in the entire world. It was only fully mapped in 2012, and even now, new passages continue to be discovered. Coming here feels less like tourism and more like genuine exploration.

The adventure begins with a 30-minute trek through secondary rainforest to the cave entrance — a gaping 60-metre-wide portal in the cliff face that local Waray communities have called "the mouth of the giant" for generations. Inside, the scale is staggering: cathedral chambers large enough to hold entire city blocks, underground rivers fed by the karst aquifer system above, flowstone curtains hanging from ceilings 40 metres overhead, and cave formations of such surpassing beauty — giant cave pearls, helictite forests, massive stalactites — that you'll stop walking just to stare. Colonies of Dobson's horseshoe bats number in the hundreds of thousands.

All tours are led by certified spelunking guides from the local Calbiga community, trained by the Cave Rescue Team of the Philippines. Safety equipment — helmets, headlamps, harnesses for rappel sections — is provided. Multiple difficulty levels are available: a 3-hour introductory route for beginners, and a full 8-hour expedition for experienced cavers who want to reach the deepest chambers. This is the Philippines' greatest cave adventure, and almost nobody knows about it yet.
