Badian
Home of Kawasan Falls and the Philippines' famous canyoneering · Cebu
Badian is a small town on Cebu's southwest coast that punches far above its size. It is the home of Kawasan Falls, a staircase of impossibly turquoise waterfalls, and the launch point for Kawasan canyoneering - the most famous canyoneering run in the Philippines. You start upstream at the Kanlaob River, then jump, swim, slide and scramble down a limestone canyon of milky blue-green water until you reach the base of the falls, soaked and grinning. And because Badian sits right next to Moalboal, you can stack it with the sardine run and sea turtles.
Things to do in Badian
Kawasan canyoneering

Visit Kawasan Falls (no canyoneering)

🗓️ Best time to visit Badian
Driest and most reliable December to May, peaking January to April. The wet season (June-November) brings heavy rain that can trigger flash floods in the canyon, so operators suspend canyoneering - sometimes at short notice. Mornings are best year-round.
✈️ How to get to Badian
Badian is ~3-3.5 hrs from Cebu City. From the Cebu South Bus Terminal, a Ceres bus toward Bato via Barili (ask for Kawasan or Matutinao, ~PHP 150-200), or a shared van (~PHP 150-250). Badian is ~30-45 min from Moalboal, so many base there and day-trip.

Frequently asked questions — Badian
Do I need to swim well for canyoneering?
You should be comfortable in water but not a strong swimmer - you wear a life vest the whole time. Tell your guide if you are a weak swimmer so they keep you close.
Are the cliff jumps mandatory?
No. Every jump is optional, with lower entry points or walk-arounds. Never jump unless your guide confirms the pool is clear.
How much does canyoneering cost?
~PHP 1,500-2,500 pp, generally including a licensed guide, helmet, life vest and dry-bag service. Confirm inclusions and avoid suspiciously cheap unlicensed offers.
Can I combine Kawasan and Moalboal?
Yes - they are ~30-45 min apart. Many do canyoneering in the morning and the Moalboal sardine run or turtles in the afternoon, or split across two days.
