About this tour

Two of Cebu's biggest bucket-list adventures in one day

This is the classic southern Cebu combo: a dawn swim alongside the gentle giants of Oslob, then an afternoon of cliff jumps and turquoise pools canyoneering down to Kawasan Falls. It is a long, full day that packs the island's two most famous experiences into a single, well-run group tour - whale sharks at sunrise when the water is calm and the crowds are thin, and the cool jungle gorge of Badian when the day heats up.

Morning: swimming with whale sharks in Oslob

You leave the city well before dawn to reach Oslob for the first boats, when the butanding (whale sharks) come close to shore to feed. After a short briefing on the rules - no touching, no sunscreen in the water, keep a respectful distance - you paddle out on a small banca and slip in. Snorkelling beside a creature the size of a bus, watching it glide past with its huge mouth open, is genuinely humbling. Sessions are kept short to protect the animals, so you make the most of your time in the water.

Tumalog Falls

Many group tours add a quick stop at nearby Tumalog Falls, a soft curtain of water dropping into a shallow turquoise pool through hanging vines - a gentle, photogenic contrast to the open sea and a chance to rinse off before the drive to Badian.

Afternoon: canyoneering to Kawasan Falls

From Oslob you transfer west to Badian, gear up with a helmet and life vest, and trek a short way into the Kawasan gorge. Then the fun begins: a chain of cliff jumps from gentle to genuinely heart-stopping, natural rock slides, and swims through impossibly blue water, all working downstream towards the multi-tiered Kawasan Falls themselves. Every jump has a lower, optional route, so beginners and the cautious set their own pace while thrill-seekers go big.

Why do them together

Pairing the two means one early start covers both halves of southern Cebu, with transport, guides and timing handled for you. It is a big day - expect to be on the go from before sunrise until evening - but you come home having ticked off the region's two signature adventures back to back.

Making the most of the day

Bring quick-dry clothes, water shoes with grip, and a floating or waterproof camera, and eat a proper breakfast or grab one on the road. The canyoneering is active and involves swimming, so it suits travellers who are reasonably fit and comfortable in moving water. Because the whale-shark interaction is weather-dependent and the falls can run high after heavy rain, a little flexibility goes a long way - but on a good day this is one of the most rewarding single days you can have in the Philippines.
