How we built this index
We exported every trip in the PANA.PH inventory whose title or location names Coron, with price, duration and category, sorted by price. That is 41 trips across multiple operators - the complete set on 8 August 2026. Quartiles: 25th percentile PHP 1,850, median PHP 3,500, 75th percentile PHP 6,500, range PHP 1,453 to 72,540.
The duration field is almost uniform - 39 of 41 full day, two at 8 hours - which tells you Coron is a boat-day destination with very little in the way of short attractions. Categories: general tours 22, island hopping 12, marine and snorkelling 3, and one each of diving, romantic, river cruise and luxury.
One structural caveat specific to Coron. Our inventory is weighted towards island hopping and lagoon tours rather than technical wreck diving, which is typically sold directly by dive shops as multi-dive packages rather than as day tours. So this index describes the surface market accurately and understates what a dedicated wreck-diving trip costs.
At PHP 3,500, Coron's median sits above El Nido (PHP 2,500), Cebu (PHP 3,200) and Boracay (PHP 1,850). Taken alone, that supports the common claim that Coron is the pricier Palawan option.
The distribution says otherwise. Coron's cheapest trip, PHP 1,453 for Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon, is cheaper than anything comparable in El Nido, and its PHP 1,850 cluster is the same size proportionally. What pulls the median up is a heavy top end - four trips above PHP 23,000, including a PHP 68,822 private speedboat charter. A handful of luxury charters drags the midpoint of a small sample.
For a traveller booking a standard boat day, Coron and El Nido cost the same: PHP 1,850.
Kayangan Lake is the cheapest headline sight in Palawan
The single most photographed viewpoint in the Philippines sits inside the cheapest tour in our Coron index, at PHP 1,453 including lunch and Twin Lagoon. That is a genuinely unusual pairing of fame and price.
The reason is proximity. Kayangan is a short boat ride from Coron town, so operators are not funding a long crossing. Compare that with El Nido, where the lagoons need a longer run into Bacuit Bay, or with Cebu, where almost every price includes hours of road transport. Coron's geography is compact, and the cheap end of its market reflects it.
What the PHP 6,500 tier actually is
Seven trips price at exactly PHP 6,500 - the same second-tier cluster we see in El Nido, at the same number. These are small-group boats: fewer passengers, better lunch, sometimes an earlier departure to reach Kayangan before the day boats.
The Kayangan timing point is the one that matters. The lake is reached by a steep staircase from the jetty and the viewpoint platform is small, so arrival order determines whether you photograph a lagoon or a queue. That, rather than the boat itself, is what the premium buys.
Wreck diving is priced outside this index
Coron's international reputation rests on the WWII Japanese fleet sunk in Busuanga waters in 1944, but only one product in our 41 is categorised as diving. That is a gap in our inventory rather than in the destination.
Wreck diving here is sold by dive shops as multi-dive day packages or multi-day courses, usually arranged on arrival, and prices depend on how many dives, whether the wreck is within recreational depth limits, and whether you need gear. Several of the fleet sit deep enough to require advanced or technical certification. Anyone coming specifically for the wrecks should price it with a dive operator directly and treat the numbers in this index as covering the surface trips only.
Reading the 8-hour outliers
Only two of the 41 trips are not full-day: both are logged at 8 hours, and one of them - Coron Pass and the remote islands at PHP 1,500 - is the second-cheapest product in the index. That combination is worth noticing, because a shorter day at a lower price usually means fewer stops, and here it means the opposite: it is a longer-range trip that skips the crowded near-island circuit.
The practical read is that Coron rewards going further out. The near-island tours cluster around the same lagoons and the same jetty queues, while the remote-island runs trade the famous viewpoint for emptier water at a lower price. If you have three days here, one near-island day and one remote day beats two near-island days.
What most guides get wrong about Coron
The recurring claim is that Coron is the budget alternative to El Nido. Our data does not support it. On tours, El Nido's median is PHP 2,500 and Coron's is PHP 3,500 - Coron is the more expensive of the two, not the cheaper. Both share an identical PHP 1,850 standard day.
Where the myth comes from is probably accommodation and atmosphere: Coron town is smaller and quieter than El Nido, and it feels less resort-driven. But the boats cost the same and the tours skew slightly dearer.
The second thing guides miss is that Coron and Busuanga are not interchangeable names. Coron town sits on Busuanga Island; Coron Island - where Kayangan and Twin Lagoon are - is a separate island across the water, and it is ancestral domain of the Tagbanua people with access rules and closed areas that are enforced. Tours respect this, but itineraries that promise unrestricted exploring are describing something that is not on offer.
