Short answer: Every one of the 16 bookable Badian trips is canyoneering to Kawasan Falls, and the price runs from PHP 1,500 to PHP 10,425 - a sevenfold spread for the same gorge, the same jumps and the same water. The four things that actually change are where you are collected from, group size, whether lunch and a zipline are included, and whether the vehicle is private. The median is PHP 3,200.

How we built this index

We exported every trip in the PANA.PH inventory whose title or location names Badian, with price, duration and category, sorted by price. That is 16 trips - the complete set on 8 August 2026. Quartiles: 25th percentile around PHP 2,500, median PHP 3,200, 75th percentile around PHP 6,000, range PHP 1,500 to 10,425.

This is the only destination we have indexed where the category field holds essentially one value. Fifteen of 16 are filed as canyoneering and falls and the sixteenth as adventure - and reading the titles confirms all sixteen are the same Kawasan activity. Nowhere else do we sell a single experience sixteen different ways.

That makes this index unusually clean. When every product is the same activity, price differences cannot be explained by what you are doing, only by how you get there and who you do it with. Caveats as always: these are bookable rates with operator margin, local guide fees and the barangay canyoneering fee are typically collected on site, and the river is weather-dependent - operators suspend trips after heavy rain.

The PHP 1,500 outlier explains the entire spread

One trip in the index costs PHP 1,500 and runs five hours. Every other product is a full day costing more. The difference is not the canyoneering - it is that this one assumes you are already in the area.

Badian is roughly three hours south of Cebu City. Once you subtract the round trip, what remains is a five-hour activity that costs PHP 1,500. Every full-day price above that is, in large part, six hours of van time being sold back to you.

The practical consequence is the clearest booking advice in any of our indexes: stay the night in Badian, Moalboal or Oslob and book locally. You save money, you skip a pre-dawn pickup, and you enter the gorge before the Cebu City vans arrive.

PHP 3,200 is the honest full-day rate

Four trips price at exactly PHP 3,200, making it the most repeated number here. These are the full-course downstream runs with lunch, some with a zipline attached, collected from Cebu City or the south-coast towns.

If you are coming from Cebu City for the day and want the complete gorge rather than a shortened section, this is the tier that reflects the real cost of doing it. Below PHP 2,500 with a transfer included, check carefully whether you are getting the full course or the shorter upstream section.

Above PHP 5,000 you are buying a second attraction

Six trips run PHP 5,120 to 6,827, and their titles all name something extra: Oslob whale sharks, Osmena Peak at sunrise, Moalboal sardines, or a multi-waterfall circuit.

None of them offers better canyoneering. They bundle a second headline stop, which also makes the day considerably longer - the Oslob combinations in particular push toward fourteen hours once the southern drive is counted twice.

The single PHP 10,425 private tour is the cleanest illustration of what money buys here: identical gorge, exclusive vehicle and guide. For a group of four splitting it, that is roughly PHP 2,600 each, which is competitive. For two people, it is not.

What the sevenfold spread means for choosing

Because the activity is constant, this index reduces to a short decision list. Where are you starting from, since transfer is most of the price. How long a day can you tolerate, since combos run to fourteen hours. Do you want the full course or the shorter section. And are you enough people to make a private vehicle sensible.

Nothing on that list is about the quality of the canyoneering itself, which is the same experience at PHP 1,500 as at PHP 10,425.

What the duration column hides about the full course

Fifteen of the 16 trips are logged as full day and only one as five hours, but that uniformity conceals a real difference in the product. Titles in this index split between plain canyoneering, full-course downstream and shortened variants - and the label matters more than the price does.

The full downstream course runs the gorge from the upper entry to Kawasan itself, which is several hours in the water with the largest jumps near the end. Shorter versions enter lower and skip sections, which is a legitimate option for nervous first-timers but is not what most photographs show. Two trips in our index name the full course explicitly; several others do not specify.

If the jumps are the reason you are going, book a product that says full course in the title. If they are the reason you are hesitating, the shorter entry exists and no operator will volunteer that unprompted.

What most guides get wrong about Kawasan

Most guides quote one canyoneering price, usually the one their affiliate link pays on, and present it as the going rate. Our data shows there is no single going rate - there is a sevenfold range determined almost entirely by logistics.

The second error is describing Kawasan as a waterfall visit. Canyoneering here means several hours of jumping from heights into pools, swimming through a gorge and scrambling over rock. It has a genuine injury profile, jumps are optional but socially pressured, and there is a real difference between operators on helmet and vest quality. Anyone who cannot swim confidently should be booking the falls viewpoint rather than the canyoneering, and few guides say so.

Third, Kawasan is routinely listed as a Moalboal attraction. It is in Badian, the neighbouring municipality, which matters when you are estimating drive times between your accommodation and the meeting point.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Kawasan canyoneering cost?

PHP 1,500 for a five-hour local booking; PHP 3,200 is the most common full-day rate with transfer and lunch. The full range in our index is PHP 1,500 to 10,425.

Why is there such a big price difference?

Transfer distance, group size, inclusions and vehicle exclusivity. Badian is about three hours from Cebu City, and most of the gap is that round trip.

Is the expensive canyoneering better?

No. All 16 trips run the same gorge. Above PHP 5,000 you are paying for a second attraction such as Oslob, or for a private vehicle.

Is Kawasan in Moalboal?

No, it is in Badian, the neighbouring municipality. Moalboal is commonly used as a base, which is why the two get conflated.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes. The route involves jumps into deep pools and swimming through the gorge. Non-swimmers should choose the falls viewpoint instead of the canyoneering.
