Napaling Reef and the sardine run

Napaling is one of Bohol's best-kept snorkelling secrets: a steep reef wall just off the coast where a huge school of sardines swirls in shimmering clouds, much like Moalboal's but far less crowded. You snorkel straight off the rocks into deep blue water, with the baitball below and the wall dropping away into the dark - thrilling and beautiful at once.

Hinagdanan Cave

Inland, Hinagdanan Cave hides a clear underground pool lit by shafts of daylight falling through openings in the limestone roof. You can swim in the cool, still water beneath stalactites - an atmospheric, slightly eerie contrast to the bright sea outside.

The watchtower and heritage

The tour also stops at one of Panglao's old Spanish-era watchtowers, built to warn against raiders, with views over the coast - a quick but evocative glimpse of the island's layered history.

Good to know

The day suits swimmers and snorkellers of most levels; Napaling involves deep water off the rocks, so life vests are recommended for the less confident. Bring swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, water shoes and an underwater camera. The dry season from December to May brings the clearest water.
