The night bus from Manila to Banaue is long (9-ish hours) but you wake up to 2,000-year-old rice terraces carved into the mountains. From Banaue I took a jeep to the Batad saddle and hiked down into the amphitheatre of terraces — it's steep but jaw-dropping.
I stayed in a simple guesthouse overlooking the terraces and hiked to Tappiya Falls the next day. Bring layers; the highlands get genuinely cold at night.
