Panglao hangs off the southwest tip of Bohol, pairing powder-white sand and turquoise water with some of the best diving in the Philippines, all within a short hop of dolphin pods, coral walls and chocolate-hued hills inland. The heart for visitors is Alona Beach, a 1.5 km crescent of cafes, dive shops and sunset bars, minutes from Balicasag Island (turtles, sardines, drop-offs), the Virgin Island sandbar, and the dawn dolphin grounds. Connected to mainland Bohol by two bridges and home to Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG), you can land and be by the sea within half an hour.

Frequently asked questions — Panglao

Is Panglao the same as Bohol?

Not quite. Panglao is a small island off the southwest coast of the larger island of Bohol, connected by two bridges. Most beach travelers stay on Panglao and day-trip into mainland Bohol for the Chocolate Hills and tarsiers.

Do I need to fly into Cebu to reach Panglao?

No. Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG) is on Panglao itself, with direct flights from Manila and Cebu. Flying via Cebu and the ferry to Tagbilaran is an alternative.

Can beginners dive or snorkel at Balicasag?

Yes. Snorkelers enjoy the turtles and sardines from the surface, and non-divers can try a guided Discover Scuba session. Certified divers get the most from the deeper walls.

How many days should I spend in Panglao?

Three to four days: one for Alona Beach and the cave and churches, one for Balicasag diving or snorkeling and island hopping, and one or two for a mainland Bohol day trip and pure beach time.
