White-Water Rafting the CDO River
The river divides into two main stretches — the Upper Course (Class II–III, 2–3 hours, good for first-timers) and the Lower Course (Class III–IV, 1.5–2 hours, for those who want the drops). Most operators bundle both into a combined 4-hour package for PHP 800–1,200 per person including equipment, guides, and a shuttle from the city to the put-in point. Go early: tours leave from 7 AM and afternoon slots fill fast on weekends.
Mapawa Nature Park
Thirty minutes from the city center, Mapawa is a forested canyon park that crams a remarkable amount of adventure into a PHP 200 entrance fee. Choose rappelling into the gorge (PHP 350), a zip-line ending over a waterfall (PHP 200), or simply trekking the network of forest trails to a series of swimming holes. The park sits inside second-growth forest — birding here is genuinely rewarding, with Philippine fairy-bluebirds and flowerpeckers visible from the main trail.
Macahambus Cave and Gorge
In 1900, during the Philippine-American War, Mindanao guerrillas under General Nicolas Capistrano ambushed and routed a column of US soldiers in this narrow canyon — one of the most significant Filipino military victories of that war. Today a PHP 30 entrance fee gets you into the cave (bring a torch or rent one for PHP 20), across a swaying suspension bridge over the gorge, and along a short trail past the ambush site.
Del Monte Pineapple Plantation, Bukidnon
The Del Monte plantation in Bukidnon province, about 90 minutes from CDO, is the largest single pineapple plantation in the world — 15,000 hectares of rolling highland covered in perfect rows of low-slung pineapple plants. Entrance is free; join a plantation tour (PHP 150–250 per person) to ride through the fields on a truck, visit the cannery, and see pineapple at every stage from planting to canning.
Camiguin Island (Day Trip or Overnight)
CDO is the most common jumping-off point for Camiguin. FastCat ferries from Balingoan Port (2 hours by bus from CDO, PHP 100–120 bus fare) cross to Benoni on Camiguin in about 1 hour (PHP 200–280 one-way). On the island: swim at White Island sandbar, snorkel over the sunken Spanish cemetery visible at 5 meters depth, visit Ardent Hot Springs for an evening soak, and eat puto de camiguin (the local rice cake).
CDO Night Market and Food Scene
The city's night market runs along Divisoria and the Limketkai area from around 6 PM until midnight. Grilled corn (PHP 20), fresh fruit shakes (PHP 35–60), grilled pork skewers (PHP 10/stick), and the local specialty sinuglaw — a combination of grilled pork belly and kinilaw raw fish — fill the air with competing aromas. The Liceo and Xavier University districts have the best sit-down restaurants.

It is relatively safe — every participant gets a life jacket and helmet, and guides are stationed throughout the rapids. Non-swimmers should stick to the Class II–III upper course and inform their guide upfront. Children under 7 are not allowed on either course.
How do I get from CDO to Camiguin?
Take a bus or van from CDO's Agora Terminal to Balingoan Port (roughly 2 hours, PHP 100–120). At Balingoan, board a FastCat or Montenegro Lines ferry to Benoni, Camiguin (50–70 minutes, PHP 200–280). Ferries run roughly every 1–2 hours from early morning to late afternoon. Just show up at the port — lines are short outside of Holy Week.
What should I wear for the rafting?
Wear a swimsuit or quick-dry shorts and a rash guard. Secure footwear — water shoes or old rubber sandals with a back strap — is essential; flip-flops will come off in the rapids. Leave valuables at your hotel. Sunscreen is mandatory.
