Los Banos in Laguna is the hot-spring town at the foot of Mount Makiling, home to the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). Multiple resort hotels with naturally heated pools. A popular 2-hour drive from Manila for a weekend soak. The Makiling forest trail is for birdwatchers.

Fly MNL-LAO (Laoag) or take a 6-8 hr Victory Liner bus from Manila.
Best time to visit
November to April — dry season with pleasant temperatures.
