It's the base for climbing Mount Apo -- the country's highest peak -- and the gateway to Samal Island's beaches and Pearl Farm Resort. The D'Bone Museum has one of the best whale shark skeletal specimens in the world. Eden Nature Park nearby is worth a morning.

February to May — dry season; Camiguin year-round diving.
