Capiz province in northwestern Panay is the 'Seafood Capital of the Philippines' -- particularly known for its oysters, scallops and giant clams. Roxas City is the provincial hub. Capiz is also famous in Philippine folklore as a center of supernatural belief (aswang mythology). The Capiz Masskara-style Sinadya sa Halaran festival is in December.

Fly MNL-LGP (Legazpi) or overnight bus/train from Manila.
Best time to visit
March to May — whale shark season; November to April for hiking.
