Ten of Makati's 14 Bookable Trips Are Bars: What the Inventory Says About the District

Makati sells nightlife, not sightseeing. Ten of its 14 bookable products are bar crawls, rooftop tours or after-dark food walks, priced PHP 923 to 3,799 - and the two day tours filed here actually leave the city.

Short answer: Ten of the 14 bookable Makati trips are nightlife products - pub crawls, rooftop bars, cocktail walks and after-dark food tours - ranging PHP 923 to 3,799. Seven price at exactly PHP 1,850. The two genuine day tours filed under Makati go to Villa Escudero and Pangasinan, both hours outside the city. Makati is where you sleep and drink, not where you sightsee.

How we built this index

We exported every trip in the PANA.PH inventory whose title or location names Makati - price, duration and category - and read the titles. That is 14 trips, the complete set on 9 August 2026. Range PHP 923 to 3,799, median PHP 1,850, and the 25th and 75th percentiles are both PHP 1,850.

The category field is nearly useless here: 12 of 14 are filed as general tours and activities, 2 as sightseeing day tours. So we classified by reading titles instead, which is how the nightlife concentration became visible - ten products name a bar, club, rooftop, cocktail or pub crawl.

All 14 are logged as full day, which for a bar crawl is clearly a filing convention rather than a duration. Treat the duration field here as meaningless and judge by the product type.

A district that sells drinking, not landmarks

Ten of fourteen is not a lean, it is the entire market. Makati Pub Crawl at PHP 923, VIP club and rooftop access at PHP 1,264, an all-access bar crawl at PHP 1,511, rooftop and hidden bars at PHP 1,850, signature cocktails at PHP 2,306, street food and cocktails at PHP 3,690, and a Poblacion nightlife tour with a female guide at PHP 3,799.

That last product is worth naming rather than glossing: a guided option specifically staffed for travellers who would rather not navigate a nightlife district alone. It is the most expensive item in the index, which tells you there is real demand for it.

The two day tours are not in Makati

Villa Escudero and Pangasinan Hundred Islands both appear at PHP 1,850 filed under Makati. Villa Escudero is in Quezon province; the Hundred Islands are in Pangasinan, roughly five hours north.

They are listed here because Makati hotels are where the vans collect from, which is the same pattern our Manila index shows at much larger scale - 29 of 53 Manila products are van trips out of the city. If you book one of these expecting to see Makati, you will see a highway.

What is genuinely in the district

Three products. The Poblacion heritage and creative streets tour at PHP 1,850, a hands-on Filipino cooking class at PHP 1,850, and the Urban Charms and Gondola cityscape tour at PHP 1,850.

Poblacion is the interesting one. It is the old town centre of Makati, now the bar and restaurant district, and a daytime heritage walk there is a different experience from the same streets at night. Booking both the daytime walk and an evening tour of the same area is not redundant - though few travellers realise they are the same few blocks.

Why nothing here costs under PHP 900

Makati's entry price of PHP 923 is high for a city district. Manila's is PHP 300, Cebu City's PHP 600, Davao's PHP 600. The reason is that Makati sells no museum tickets or standalone attractions in our inventory - the Ayala Museum, Greenbelt and the parks are all things you simply walk into rather than book.

That is the practical point for a traveller. The best of Makati is unbookable and free: walking Poblacion, the Ayala Triangle gardens, the Greenbelt chapel, and the fact that the district is compact and genuinely walkable in a way little else in Metro Manila is.

The PHP 1,850 rate turns up here too

Seven of fourteen Makati products price at exactly PHP 1,850 - the same number that dominates El Nido, Boracay, Coron, Panglao and Manila. Seeing it in a financial district selling cocktail tours rather than boat days is the clearest evidence yet that it is a market convention rather than a cost calculation.

What sits on that number here is genuinely mixed: a rooftop bar tour, a cooking class, a heritage walk and two out-of-town day trips. Those have almost nothing in common operationally, which means the price is anchored to what the market expects a guided half-to-full day to cost in Metro Manila, not to what any of them costs to run.

Practical read: at PHP 1,850 you are paying the standard rate, so choose purely on what you want to do. The three products above it - PHP 2,306 to 3,799 - are all nightlife, and there the premium buys a smaller group, a guide who handles entry, or a specific safety-oriented format.

Where Makati sits against the rest of Metro Manila

Our Manila index holds 53 products with an entry price of PHP 300; Intramuros holds 10 with an entry of PHP 500; Makati holds 14 with an entry of PHP 923. Three overlapping markets in one metro area, each selling something different.

Manila sells transport out of the city - 29 of 53 products are vans to other provinces. Intramuros sells history in a compact walled district. Makati sells the evening. A traveller with two days in Metro Manila gets more from one of each than from three products in the same district.

What most guides get wrong about Makati

Guides describe Makati as a base and leave it there, which understates it in one direction and overstates it in another. Our inventory shows a district with a deep, specialised nightlife market and almost no daytime tour product - so treating it as a place to sleep before island-hopping misses that people fly in specifically for Poblacion.

The second error is presenting the day tours filed under Makati as Makati attractions. Villa Escudero and the Hundred Islands are provinces away, and their PHP 1,850 price is the standard Manila-area van rate rather than anything to do with this district.

Third, guides rarely say that Poblacion by day and Poblacion by night are the same streets. Travellers book a heritage walk and a bar tour on different days without realising the geography overlaps almost exactly.

Frequently asked questions

What is there to do in Makati?

Mostly nightlife: 10 of our 14 bookable trips are bar, club or cocktail tours. The daytime options are a Poblacion heritage walk and a cooking class, both PHP 1,850.

How much is a Makati bar crawl?

PHP 923 for the basic pub crawl, PHP 1,264 for VIP club and rooftop access, and up to PHP 3,799 for a guided Poblacion nightlife tour.

Is Makati or Intramuros better for sightseeing?

Intramuros, clearly. It has ten bookable historical tours from PHP 500; Makati has three daytime products and no historical sites of that scale.

Are the Makati day tours actually in Makati?

No. Villa Escudero is in Quezon province and the Hundred Islands are about five hours north in Pangasinan - Makati is just the pickup point.

Is Makati walkable?

Yes, unusually so for Metro Manila. The Ayala Triangle gardens, Greenbelt and Poblacion are all walkable and cost nothing, which is why they do not appear as bookable products.
