Cebu to Bohol Ferry 2026: Every Route, Schedule and What to Do When You Arrive

PANA.PH · May 30, 2026 · 7 min read

Getting from Cebu to Bohol is one of those routes that sounds straightforward until you start looking at the options and realize there are four different ports, three ferry companies, two speed categories, and a confusing mix of current and discontinued schedules. This guide cuts through all of that. Here is what actually works in 2026, with prices, departure times, and enough context to make the right choice for your trip.

The Short Answer

Take the OceanJet or SuperCat fast ferry from Cebu Pier 1 to Tagbilaran Port, Bohol. Journey time: 2 hours. Tickets: ₱500-650 one way. Multiple daily departures. This is what 90% of travelers do and it works perfectly. The rest of this guide is for the other 10%.

Fast Ferry: Cebu to Tagbilaran (Main Route)

Two operators run air-conditioned fast ferries on the main Cebu City to Tagbilaran route:

Both operators: arrive at the pier 30-45 minutes before departure. Port terminal fee of ₱30-50 paid separately at the terminal. The pier is in downtown Cebu — Grab from IT Park takes 20-30 minutes, from the airport 35-50 minutes. Add extra time during morning rush hours (7-9 AM).

How to Buy Tickets

Do not buy from touts outside the pier. There is no legitimate reason a stranger in the street should be selling ferry tickets — they are either reselling with a markup or selling invalid tickets.

Alternative Route: Mactan to Tagbilaran

Some operators run fast ferries from Mactan (Cordova area) to Tagbilaran, which is useful if you are staying near the airport and want to avoid going into central Cebu first. Check current schedules as these services change — Lite Ferries and some smaller operators have run this route. Journey time is similar, price is comparable.

Slow Overnight Ferry: For Those in No Rush

Lite Shipping and similar operators run overnight ro-ro (roll-on roll-off) ferries from Cebu to Tagbilaran and to Tubigon port in northern Bohol. Journey time 4-6 hours. Fares from ₱250-350 for economy (you sleep on the deck or on a mat in an open cabin). Not recommended for most tourists. The slow ferry makes sense if you have a huge backpack and a tight budget, or if you enjoy the experience of a working Philippine ferry.

Cebu to Tubigon (Alternative Bohol Port)

Tubigon is a port on the northwest side of Bohol — geographically closer to the Chocolate Hills area than Tagbilaran. Some travelers take this route if they are going directly to Carmen (the Chocolate Hills town) without stopping in Tagbilaran City. OceanJet runs a Cebu to Tubigon service. Check current schedules. From Tubigon to Carmen by habal-habal or jeepney: 45 minutes. This saves 1-1.5 hours versus the Tagbilaran route if Carmen is your first stop.

What to Do When You Arrive in Tagbilaran

Tagbilaran is not the destination — it is the gateway. Most travelers are through it within 20 minutes, heading to the main attractions. From Tagbilaran port:

3-Day Bohol Itinerary from Cebu

If you have 3 nights in Bohol (take the 8 AM ferry, return on the 4 PM ferry on Day 3), this is the route:

Day Trip to Bohol from Cebu (Is It Possible?)

Yes, technically. Take the 6 AM OceanJet, do the Chocolate Hills tour, and catch the 5:30 PM boat back to Cebu. You arrive home after 8 PM, slightly exhausted. The day will feel rushed. For a first-time visit to Bohol, 2 nights minimum makes the trip significantly more rewarding. But if your schedule forces a day trip, the combination of Chocolate Hills + Tarsier Sanctuary + Loboc River cruise can be done in one day if you move efficiently.

Frequently Asked Questions: Cebu to Bohol Ferry

How long is the ferry from Cebu to Bohol?

The fast ferry (OceanJet, SuperCat) takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours from Cebu Pier 1 to Tagbilaran. Sea conditions can add 15-20 minutes during rougher weather. The slow overnight ferry takes 4-6 hours.

Can I book the Cebu to Bohol ferry online?

Yes. OceanJet tickets are available at oceanjet.net. SuperCat (2Go) tickets at travel.2go.com.ph. Both require registration and accept credit cards and GCash. Booking online is recommended during peak season (Holy Week, Christmas-New Year) when boats sell out quickly.

Is the ferry safe?

The OceanJet and SuperCat fast ferries are modern, well-maintained, and operated under MARINA (Maritime Industry Authority) safety standards. Both operators carry life jackets, run safety briefings, and have good operational safety records. Choose a licensed operator over any unmarked private boat. Avoid small unscheduled bangkas for the crossing.

What is there to see in Bohol?

The Chocolate Hills (1,776 perfectly conical hills, brown in summer, green after rain, genuinely extraordinary from the viewpoint), Philippine tarsiers (the world's second-smallest primate, nocturnal, with eyes larger than their brain), Loboc River (jungle-lined river cruise with floating restaurants), Alona Beach on Panglao Island (white sand, good diving), and Baclayon Church (400-year-old Spanish colonial stone church). A full Bohol experience needs at minimum 2 full days.

Can I bring a motorbike or bicycle on the ferry?

Yes on the slow ro-ro ferries — they are designed for vehicle transport. Not possible on the OceanJet and SuperCat fast ferries, which are passenger-only. If you want to bring your own motorcycle to Bohol, use the ro-ro service. Otherwise, motorbike rentals in Tagbilaran and around Alona Beach are widely available at ₱400-500/day.
