About this tour

Twenty minutes from Dumaguete, the road to Valencia crosses a landscape so unlike the coastal city it feels like a different country. Up here in the foothills of Negros Oriental's central mountains, a series of rivers cut dramatic gorges into the volcanic landscape, and Casaroro Falls is the most spectacular result: a 30-metre column of white water that drops vertically into a narrow canyon pool, flanked by sheer mossy walls and overhanging tropical vegetation.

The approach is part of the experience. After the trailhead at Valencia, you descend 300 concrete steps (built for safety, but still steep) before crossing several river channels on stepping stones. In the wet season the river runs full and the stepping stones can be submerged — your guide will advise on the best crossing points. The final approach to the falls is through a narrow gorge where the walls close in and the roar of the water amplifies until the waterfall explodes into view around a bend. The pool at its base is deep, cold, and swimmable.

The trek back up the 300 steps is a solid cardio workout that most visitors underestimate, so pace yourself on the way down. The whole experience — return trek, swimming time at the falls, and transfer to and from Dumaguete — takes four to five hours. Bring river sandals or water shoes for the river crossings, and pack a change of clothes if you plan to swim. Book via Klook for a guide and transfer from Dumaguete.

Frequently asked questions

Is the trail difficult?
The 300-step descent is manageable for most people, but the return uphill is tiring. Moderate fitness is recommended. The river crossings are the most challenging section in wet conditions.
Can I swim at the falls?
Yes — the pool at the base is deep and safe for swimming in dry season. In the wet season (July–November) currents can be strong; your guide will advise.
What footwear is best?
Closed-toe water shoes or river sandals with grip are ideal. Flip-flops are not suitable for the stepped trail and river crossings.
