San Vicente is what El Nido was twenty years ago — a small, unhurried town on Palawan's northwest coast where the infrastructure has only just caught up with the scenery. The centerpiece is Long Beach: 14.7 kilometres of uninterrupted white sand and swaying coconut palms, the longest beach in the Philippines and, astonishingly, one of the least developed for its size. No resort wall, no entrance fee, no vendor gauntlet — just you, the South China Sea, and a horizon that seems to go on forever. Port Barton, a 45-minute habal-habal ride away, adds limestone islands and coral snorkeling to the picture, making San Vicente the rare destination where you can have both a world-class beach and an island-hopping adventure without fighting the crowds of El Nido.

Things to do in San Vicente

Walk Long Beach at Sunrise

Set your alarm and walk the full 14.7-kilometre stretch — or as much of it as your legs allow — in the hour after dawn, when the light turns the sand gold and you will have it almost entirely to yourself. There is no entrance fee and no development to interrupt the view: just coconut palms, fishing bancas, and the occasional dog trotting along the waterline. The northern end near Barangay Alimanguan is particularly untouched.

Island-Hop to Imiit Island

Hire a private banca from the San Vicente wharf for a half-day trip to Imiit Island, a small limestone outcrop with shallow coral gardens excellent for snorkeling — parrotfish, clownfish, and sea turtles are regularly spotted. Cost is PHP 800–1,200 for the boat (fits 4–6 people), plus PHP 100–150 per person for snorkel gear rental. Combine with a stop at the sandbars that emerge at low tide.

Explore Port Barton by Banca

Jump on a habal-habal from San Vicente to Port Barton (PHP 150–200, 45 minutes) and join the daily island-hopping tour (PHP 500–800/person shared, or PHP 2,500–3,500 for a private boat). The circuit typically covers German Island, Exotic Island, and Albaguen Island — limestone karst scenery at a fraction of El Nido's price and crowds. Overnight guesthouses in Port Barton run PHP 250–400/night for a basic fan room.

Alimanguan River Mangrove Tour

Hire a banca from the Alimanguan barangay to explore the tidal mangrove network at the northern end of Long Beach. The tour takes 1.5–2 hours and costs PHP 300–500 per boat (up to 4 people). The mangroves are home to monitor lizards, kingfishers, and the occasional Philippine crocodile. Early morning or late afternoon light makes for the best photography.

Snorkel Caruray Cove

At the southern end of Long Beach, past the small fishing community of Caruray, a rocky point shelters a cove with a living coral reef accessible directly from shore — no boat required. Enter the water from the beach in front of the rock shelf on the right side of the cove. Visibility is best on calm mornings. The beach at Caruray itself is quiet, with a couple of basic eateries serving grilled fish for PHP 150–250.

Day Trip to El Nido by Van

San Vicente is just 3–4 hours from El Nido by shared van (PHP 250–350, departures roughly 7–8 AM from the town centre). Use it as a base and do El Nido as a day trip rather than paying El Nido's significantly higher accommodation prices. The contrast between San Vicente's empty beach and El Nido's bustling main street makes both more vivid.

🗓️ Best time to visit San Vicente

October to May is the dry season and the best window. The calmest, clearest months are January through April. The southwest monsoon (habagat) arrives in June and brings rough seas and daily rain from June through September — island-hopping is frequently cancelled and Long Beach can look grey and choppy. October and May are shoulder months with lower prices and manageable rain.

✈️ How to get to San Vicente

Frequently asked questions — San Vicente

Is San Vicente safe for solo travellers including solo women?

Yes — San Vicente is a small, quiet, community-oriented town where solo travellers (including solo women) report feeling comfortable and welcome. Basic precautions apply as anywhere: keep valuables out of sight on the beach, let your guesthouse know your plans, and avoid empty stretches of beach after dark.

Is there an ATM in San Vicente?

As of 2026 there is one Landbank ATM in the town centre, but it frequently runs out of cash, especially on weekends and peak season. Withdraw sufficient pesos in Puerto Princesa or Manila before you arrive. Most guesthouses and tour operators are cash-only. Some larger resorts on Long Beach now accept GCash.

Are there beachfront resorts on Long Beach?

A small number of resorts and guesthouses have opened with Long Beach frontage, ranging from PHP 800–1,500/night for a fan room to PHP 3,000–5,000 for air-conditioned cottages with sea view. Availability is limited and fills up during Holy Week and peak December–January — book ahead during those periods.

Can I visit San Vicente and El Nido in the same trip?

Absolutely — they are logically combined. Most travellers fly into Puerto Princesa, go north to San Vicente (4–5 hours by van), spend 3–4 days on Long Beach and Port Barton, then continue north to El Nido (3–4 hours by van), and fly home from El Nido Airport (ENI) to Manila. This is one of the best Palawan itineraries for avoiding crowds.

First time in San Vicente?

Quick essentials so you can hit the ground running.

🛂
Visa

Citizens of most countries receive a free 30-day visa-on-arrival at Philippine airports. Extendable to 59 days at any Bureau of Immigration office.

💱
Currency

The single Landbank ATM in San Vicente is unreliable — withdraw enough cash in Puerto Princesa (multiple ATMs near the bus terminal and Robinson's Mall) or in Manila. Budget PHP 1,500–2,500/day for a comfortable backpacker experience.

🏥
Health

No required vaccinations, but Hepatitis A/B, typhoid, and tetanus are recommended. Bring sunscreen (reef-safe if you plan to snorkel), insect repellent (dengue mosquitoes are active dawn and dusk), and any prescription medications — the nearest pharmacy with reliable stock is in Puerto Princesa.

💳
Money & payments

Budget PHP 1,500–2,500/day covers a basic fan guesthouse (PHP 400–700), meals at local eateries (PHP 80–150/meal), and a shared island-hopping tour or banca rental. Midrange travellers spending PHP 3,000–5,000/day get an air-conditioned beachfront room, decent restaurants, and private boat tours.

🔒
Safety

San Vicente is safe. The greatest practical risks are sunburn on Long Beach (shade is sparse), motorbike accidents on the unpaved road to Port Barton (hold on, wear closed shoes), and strong currents during the May–September swell season. The area has no history of political unrest.
