Loboc is the heart of inland Bohol - a small riverside town about an hour from the Panglao beaches and the capital, Tagbilaran. It packs an outsized punch: a jade-green river you cruise on a slow floating restaurant, a heritage stone church from the 1840s, and a short hop away, the wide-eyed tarsier, the smallest primate on Earth. Most travelers experience Loboc as the centerpiece of the classic Bohol countryside day tour, which strings together the river lunch cruise, a tarsier sanctuary, the surreal Chocolate Hills and a cool man-made forest.
Things to do in Loboc
Loboc River lunch cruise
Drift upstream on a bamboo-decked floating restaurant while a Filipino buffet is served, often with live music or a riverside performance. ~1 hour, ~PHP 650-850 pp.
Tarsier Conservation Area
A quiet forest trail to see the Philippine tarsier (~PHP 120-150). Visit responsibly - a genuine conservation sanctuary, no touching, no flash, quiet voices; stress can be fatal to them.
Chocolate Hills (Carmen)
About an hour north: 1,000+ symmetrical mounds that turn cocoa-brown in the dry season. Climb the Carmen viewing deck (~PHP 50-100). Usually bundled into the countryside tour.
Bilar man-made forest
A dense, cathedral-like mahogany tunnel planted decades ago - free, and the iconic tunnel-of-trees photo stop.

Frequently asked questions — Loboc
How long is the Loboc River cruise, and is lunch included?
About one hour, centered on a Filipino buffet with live music. Food is included - typically ~PHP 650-850 pp if booked separately.
Is it ethical to visit the tarsiers?
Yes, if you choose a genuine conservation sanctuary and behave responsibly. Tarsiers are extremely sensitive to stress - never touch them, no flash, whisper. Your fee then supports protecting the species.

Do I need to bring cash to Loboc?
Yes. Banking here is very limited - withdraw pesos at the airport, in Tagbilaran or on Panglao beforehand. The cruise, entrance fees and vendors are largely cash-only.
