Bulabog Beach sits on the east side of Boracay island, roughly 15 minutes on foot from the White Beach strip. Where White Beach faces the sunset and party boats, Bulabog faces the Sibuyan Sea and catches a reliable northeast trade wind from November to April — turning it into the best kitesurfing beach in Southeast Asia. The shallow flat-water lagoon makes it safe for beginners; the side-shore wind makes it fast for advanced riders.

Things to do in Bulabog Beach

Learn to Kite at Hangin Kite Center

Hangin is the island's most established kite school, with IKO-certified instructors and a solid safety record. A beginner IKO course takes 2–3 days; expect to pay PHP 7,000–9,000 for the full Level 1 course including gear.

Rent a Board at Freestyle Academy Boracay

For intermediate to advanced riders, Freestyle Academy on the beachfront rents kite sets by the hour and offers coaching for jumps and unhooked tricks. Gear quality is well-maintained.

Watch the International Funboard Cup

Usually held the third or fourth week of January, this is Asia's longest-running boardsailing event. Even non-kiters come for the spectacle — dozens of riders launching off the same beach simultaneously.

Swim Off-Season

Outside kite season (May–October), Bulabog becomes a calm shallow lagoon. No motorized boats operate here, so the water is clean and safe for snorkeling over scattered coral near the far north end of the beach.

Eat at Smoke Restaurant

The open-air restaurant at the north end of Bulabog is the most relaxed place to eat on this side of the island. Fresh grilled fish, cold San Miguel, and a direct view of the water — none of the White Beach tourist markup.

Cross the Island at Sunset

The 15-minute walk from Bulabog back to White Beach at golden hour lets you experience both sides of the island in one go. Start at Bulabog at 5 PM, walk through the market path, and arrive at White Beach just as the sun hits the water.

🗓️ Best time to visit Bulabog Beach

November to April is kite season — the Amihan trade wind blows consistently at 15–25 knots. The International Funboard Cup is held here every January. From May to October the Habagat brings light or shifting winds; kiting is possible on some days but not reliable. Off-season Bulabog is quieter, cleaner, and good for swimming.

✈️ How to get to Bulabog Beach

From White Beach Station 2 or 3, walk 15 minutes inland through the Bulabog path (just past D'Mall) or take a tricycle for PHP 100–150. From Station 1 it is a 20-minute walk along the same inland route.

Frequently asked questions — Bulabog Beach

Is Bulabog good for beginner kitesurfers?

Yes — the shallow flat-water lagoon is one of the safer learning environments in Asia. Water depth is 0.5–1.5 m in most of the kite zone, and the side-shore wind means a drifting rider stays near the beach rather than heading out to sea. IKO Level 1 courses run daily from November to April.

Can I just watch the kitesurfing without taking a lesson?

Absolutely. Bulabog beach is public and there is no fee to sit and watch. The best viewing is from the north end of the beach near Smoke Restaurant. Peak action is 10 AM to 4 PM when wind is strongest.

How different is Bulabog from White Beach?

Completely different. White Beach is powdery sand, sunbeds, cocktail bars, and boat trips. Bulabog is wind-scoured, gear-heavy, and quieter — no beach massages, no vendors. The two are 15 minutes apart and feel like separate destinations.

Is the water clean at Bulabog?

Yes — cleaner than White Beach in most conditions. No motorized boats operate in the kite zone, and the east-facing orientation means beach plastic is minimal. Jellyfish (mainly moon jellies) appear occasionally from July to September.
