Zamboanga City is the largest city in Mindanao by land area and is known for Chabacano -- the only Spanish-based creole language in Asia, spoken by the local Zamboangueno people. Great Santa Cruz Island's pink beach, Fort Pilar and the colourful vintas (outrigger boats) in the harbour are the main tourist draws. Check DFA travel advisories before visiting.

Fly MNL-LAO (Laoag) or take a 6-8 hr Victory Liner bus from Manila.
Best time to visit
November to April — dry season with pleasant temperatures.
