Puraran in Catanduanes, known as the 'Majestic', is a world-class hollow beach break that attracts serious surfers from September to January. The island of Catanduanes is reached by ferry from Tabaco, Albay. Puraran itself is a remote barangay with basic guesthouses -- the reward for those willing to make the journey.
Getting there
Fly MNL-LGP (Legazpi) or overnight bus/train from Manila.
Best time to visit
March to May — whale shark season; November to April for hiking.
