Ilocos Sur province is anchored by Vigan City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the best-preserved Spanish colonial town centre in Asia. Beyond Vigan, the province has the Calle Crisologo heritage street, handwoven Inabel textiles and empanada vendors. The scenery of tobacco farms and clay tile rooftops is unlike anything else in the Philippines.
Getting there
Fly MNL-LAO (Laoag) or take a 6-8 hr Victory Liner bus from Manila.
Best time to visit
November to April — dry season with pleasant temperatures.
