Bongao is the provincial capital of Tawi-Tawi -- the Philippines' southernmost island province near Malaysia's Sabah. The Badjao sea nomads live on stilt houses and boats in the harbour. The Bongao Peak Macaque Forest is a sacred site. Travel here requires checking current DFA security advisories. Only for experienced travellers comfortable with remote frontier conditions.

Fly MNL-CGY then bus/van, or take a ferry from Cebu or Davao.
