Boac is the capital of Marinduque, a heart-shaped island in the Sibuyan Sea known for the Moriones Festival during Holy Week -- participants dress as Roman soldiers in elaborate helmets, one of the Philippines' most visually striking religious festivals. The island is quiet outside festival season with undeveloped white-sand beaches and waterfalls.
Getting there
Ferry from Batangas Port or fly to Puerto Princesa then bus/van.
Best time to visit
November to May — dry season with calm seas for island hopping.
