Basco is the small, clean capital of Batanes province on Batan Island -- the entry point for all Batanes travel. It has a handful of guesthouses, a public market and the iconic Spanish-era lighthouse above town. Most visitors rent a scooter and do the island loop in a single day. The sunsets over the Pacific from Valugan Boulder Beach are exceptional.
Getting there
Fly MNL-LAO (Laoag) or take a 6-8 hr Victory Liner bus from Manila.
Best time to visit
November to April — dry season with pleasant temperatures.
