Bagac in Bataan is famous for the Bataan Death March -- the wartime trail where 70,000 Filipino and American prisoners were forced to march 80 km in 1942. The Bataan National Park and Mt. Samat National Shrine (with a massive cross visible from Manila Bay) make it a sobering and historically significant day trip from Manila.
Getting there
Fly MNL-LAO (Laoag) or take a 6-8 hr Victory Liner bus from Manila.
Best time to visit
November to April — dry season with pleasant temperatures.
