1. Tagaytay and Taal Volcano, 2 hours south

The classic Manila day trip. Tagaytay sits on a ridge above Taal Lake where one of the world's smallest active volcanoes sits on Volcano Island. 7. Las Pinas Bamboo Organ, 30 minutes south

The USS New York was sunk here as an artificial reef and is one of the best accessible wreck dives in Asia. Distance is 120 km via NLEX and SCTEX taking 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Best for families, wreck diving, and shopping.

9. Daranak Falls in Tanay Rizal, 1.5 hours east

A beautiful swimming hole with turquoise waters in a river canyon setting. Accessible by Grab to Tanay then a short tricycle ride. The waterfall and natural pools are perfect for a refreshing escape from Manila heat. Best on weekdays for a quieter experience.

10. Vigan, 5 to 6 hours north, best as overnight

Technically possible as a long day trip, Vigan is the Philippines' best-preserved colonial city with cobblestone streets and Spanish-Filipino mestizo architecture. The UNESCO World Heritage designation is deserved. Better experienced as an overnight from Manila. Best for history, architecture, and Vigan longganisa food.
