About this tour

Just 60 km south of Manila, Tagaytay sits on a ridge 650 meters above sea level where the air is noticeably cooler and the view is one of the most photographed in the Philippines: Taal Lake filling the caldera of an ancient supervolcano, with Taal Volcano's active crater island rising from the center like a geological Russian nesting doll. It is, technically, a volcano within a lake within a volcano — and it's every bit as dramatic in person as it sounds.

Your air-conditioned van departs Manila early to beat traffic, arriving in Tagaytay in time for a ridge-view breakfast at a local restaurant with the caldera panorama as your backdrop. From there, the guide leads you to the main viewpoints before heading down to Talisay for an optional bangka (outrigger boat) ride across to the volcano island — close enough to see steam venting from the crater and the volcano's surprisingly lush vegetation (Taal's flanks are farmed despite it being one of the world's most active volcanoes).

Lunch features Tagaytay's signature dish: bulalo, a slow-simmered beef marrow soup that locals claim tastes best in the cool mountain air. The afternoon is free to browse the ridge market for local strawberry jam, pineapple vinegar, and fresh flowers before the comfortable drive back to Manila, arriving by early evening.
