About this tour

Taal Volcano is one of the world's most uniquely positioned volcanoes — it sits on an island in the middle of Taal Lake, which itself sits inside the ancient caldera of a much older super-volcano. The "lake within a volcano within a lake" configuration makes it genuinely one of the most unusual geological features on earth, visible dramatically from the ridge above Tagaytay.

From Tagaytay Ridge, the tour descends to Talisay in Batangas for the boat crossing to Volcano Island. On the island, you choose to hike the 2–3 km trail to the crater rim on foot (1.5–2 hrs round trip) or take a horse with a local handler to the summit (faster, but the horse trail is the same path). The crater rim itself is stark and dramatic — a nearly perfect circle of hardened lava dropping steeply to the acidic yellow-green Main Crater Lake 200m below. Sulphur vents send wisps of steam across the crater walls. On a clear day, the view back across Taal Lake to the Tagaytay ridge is extraordinary.

Note: Taal has been on elevated alert status periodically since its January 2020 eruption. The tour operates when PHIVOLCS alert level permits (level 0 or 1). Check current alert status before booking, and follow guide instructions inside the restricted zone at all times. This is a real active volcano — the experience is accordingly visceral and unforgettable. A hearty Filipino lunch at a Talisay waterfront restaurant completes the day before the drive back to Manila.
