Batanes is the one Philippine destination where the weather writes the itinerary — flights get bumped, seas turn rough, and locals shrug. Three days is enough for the honest loop if you keep the plan loose.
Day 1 — North Batan
Basco and its hills first: Vayang rolling hills for the grass-meets-sea view, the Basco lighthouse at golden hour, and Valugan boulder beach where the stones are volcanic cannonballs.
- Pace: slow. The hills are for sitting, not selfies-and-go.
- Eat: try the flying fish and turmeric rice at the town carinderias.
Day 2 — Sabtang day trip
The morning falowa crossing to Sabtang is half the experience — stone villages (Chavayan and Savidug), the Morong beach arch, and honesty stores with no shopkeepers. Back before the sea turns.
Day 3 — South Batan
Mahatao’s boat-shelter port, the Marlboro country viewpoints and Chawa viewpoint for the sunset. If the flight gets moved — it happens — the extra day is the one you will remember most.
