About this tour

Vigan by night is a completely different city. When the daytime tour groups leave, Calle Crisologo transforms under the glow of authentic gas lanterns — the same design that has lit this street since the 19th century — casting long golden shadows across the cobblestones. A walk here after dark is one of the Philippines' most evocative experiences, the clip-clop of a lone kalesa echoing off stone walls while fruit bats circle the cathedral belfry.

The food walk anchors the evening. Vigan's empanada is the star — a deep-fried half-moon of rice dough tinted orange with annatto, encasing a mixture of Vigan longganisa, mongo bean sprouts, and egg. Eaten piping hot with a splash of native cane vinegar, it is one of the Philippines' definitive street foods and available almost nowhere else. The guide takes you to the legendary stall that has been operating the same way for 40 years.

Between bites the walk covers tupig (grilled glutinous rice wrapped in banana leaf), bagnet chicharon (the crispiest pork crackling you will ever eat), and tinubong (coconut milk cake in bamboo tube). The Heritage Village along Quirino Boulevard buzzes with locals and the occasional firefly display in the adjacent garden — a magical natural light show free of charge and completely unexpected in the middle of a city.
