About this tour

Puerto Princesa is far more than a gateway to the underground river. The "Puerto" is a walkable, beautifully clean city with genuine culture, colonial heritage, and one of the Philippines' most enchanting evening experiences: the Iwahig River firefly watching cruise.

The afternoon city tour sweeps through the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the Palawan Heritage Center (home to the 22,000-year-old Tabon Cave skull), the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (home to rescued pangolins, bearcat, and Philippine cockatoo), and the Puerto Princesa Crocodile Farm — one of the few facilities in Asia breeding the endangered Philippine crocodile. Baker's Hill, the quirky theme garden by a legendary local baker, wraps up the day side with colourful statues and fresh hopia pastries.

As dusk falls, you transfer to Iwahig River for a slow boat cruise in near-total darkness. Thousands of fireflies (Pteroptyx tener) illuminate the mangrove trees in synchronised pulses — a phenomenon so dense it looks like the trees are strung with Christmas lights. No flash photography, no loud music: just the quiet river and nature's own light show. Return to your hotel with a memory that few other destinations can match.
