Palawan Sea Walking (Underwater Walk)
About this tour
Sea walking is the closest thing to actual diving for those who cannot or prefer not to obtain dive certification — you walk on the seabed in a pressurised helmet that maintains a continuous air supply from the surface. You see everything a diver sees, at exactly the same depth, without any specialised skills or equipment beyond the helmet itself.
In El Nido, sea walking operates from a pontoon platform moored in a protected bay with 3-5 metres of clear water over a live coral reef. You descend the ladder into the water, the helmet seals around your shoulders, and you walk slowly across the coral garden while fish cluster around you for the feed pellets you carry in a small bag. Giant clams, anemonefish (the real-life Nemo), sea cucumbers and coral fan formations appear at eye level — a perspective that snorkeling from the surface simply cannot match.
The 30-minute session includes a thorough safety briefing and a dive guide who walks alongside you on the seabed, pointing out marine life and ensuring you are comfortable throughout. No swimming ability is technically required (you walk, you do not swim), though comfort in open water helps. It is regularly cited by non-divers as the single most memorable experience of their Palawan trip.

About the area
El Nido's Bacuit Bay hosts some of the Philippines' most diverse shallow reef systems, protected by the surrounding limestone karst from wave action. The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation limits development and fishing, keeping reef health at levels that create excellent underwater visibility and abundant marine life.
