Mayon Skyline Trek — Campsite 1 & Summit Views
About this tour
The Mayon Skyline Trek is the closest most visitors will ever get to an active stratovolcano — a guided 8-hour ascent to Campsite 1 at 750 metres elevation, where the scale and raw power of Mayon becomes viscerally real. The trail rises through secondary forest and into the bare volcanic zone, where the ground shifts from soil to ash to sharp black lava rock, and the summit cone dominates the entire sky above you.
The Mayon Skyline viewpoint at approximately 600 metres offers the most dramatic perspective of Mayon you can reach without a full summit permit — looking directly up the steep grey lava flanks to the crater rim, and looking back across the Albay Gulf and the entire Bicol coastline. From here on clear days you can see the Sorsogon peninsula, the islands of Samar, and occasionally even the mountains of Eastern Visayas.
The trek is classified as moderate-challenging and requires good physical fitness and proper hiking shoes. PHIVOLCS alert level must be at 0 (normal) for the trek to proceed — this is non-negotiable and checked on the morning of departure. All trekkers carry a PHIVOLCS-approved guide certified for Mayon trekking. Summit ascent (2,462m) requires a multi-day permit and is separate.

About the area
Mayon Volcano Natural Park covers 5,765 hectares of protected land around the volcano. The lower slopes below 750m host secondary tropical forest with endemic ferns, orchids, and birds. Above 750m the vegetation gives way to volcanic ash desert and bare lava flows from various eruptions over the past two centuries.
