Calaguas Island — Unspoiled Beach Adventure
About this tour
Calaguas Island sits off the coast of Camarines Norte and consistently appears on lists of the Philippines' most beautiful undeveloped beaches — and unlike most "secret" Philippine beaches, it genuinely remains secret. There are no resort hotels, no electricity, no paved roads, and no consistent mobile signal on Calaguas. What there is: 3 kilometres of powdery white sand at Mahabang Buhangin beach that stretches further than you can see, with barely a footprint on it outside weekends, backed by coconut palms and casuarina trees.
The 2-day overnight tour departs from Daet, Camarines Norte, involving a 30-minute van transfer to Vinzons port and a 2-hour banca crossing to the island. The crossing itself is an adventure — open Pacific water with dramatic views of the Bicol coast and the distant cone of Mayon Volcano on clear days. On the island, you camp in basic beach tents (provided) or rent a simple nipa hut from local fisherfolk. The guide cooks meals using fresh fish brought by the banca.
Day 1 afternoon and Day 2 morning give you roughly 18 hours on Calaguas — time to swim in the extraordinary clear water, snorkel the coral gardens at the island's north end, walk the full beach in solitude, watch the stars from the sand (light pollution is zero), and experience the Philippines' natural beauty before mass tourism found it. Some travellers call Calaguas the best experience of their entire Philippine trip. Return banca departs Day 2 morning.
