Apo Reef Natural Park Liveaboard from Puerto Galera
About this tour
Apo Reef Natural Park is one of the great dive destinations of the Indo-Pacific — a 34 km² coral atoll rising from the deep Sulu Sea off the western coast of Mindoro, internationally recognised as a UNESCO tentative World Heritage Site and one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in the world. The world's second-largest contiguous coral reef system, it supports grey reef sharks, whitetip sharks, manta rays, hawksbill turtles, Napoleon wrasse, and schooling hammerheads on the outer walls — an experience comparable to the Coral Sea or the Maldives at Philippine prices.
This liveaboard departs Puerto Galera's Sabang Beach on a comfortable dive boat and crosses to Apo Reef overnight, arriving at first light for the best conditions. The itinerary covers 4–6 dives over two days across the reef's top sites: the North Atoll wall (sharks and manta cleaning stations), Binangaan Channel (pelagic action and schooling fish), the South Atoll (pristine table coral gardens), and Apo Island (a separate islet with a lighthouse and resting marine turtles). Night dives on the Apo Reef lagoon reveal a completely different world of hunting octopus, sleeping turtles, and bioluminescent plankton.
The liveaboard includes all meals, unlimited drinking water, tank refills, dive weights, and belts. Accommodation is in shared or private cabins depending on booking. Advanced Open Water certification is required; nitrox is available for an additional fee. Apo Reef is inaccessible for much of the year due to sea conditions — the calm season runs from March to June and October to November. This is a bucket-list Philippine dive experience accessible to anyone willing to commit to two days on the Sulu Sea.
