Kalanggaman Island: The Most Photogenic Sandbar in the Philippines
There is a photograph that has circulated across travel media for years: a perfect white sandbar curving into clear turquoise water, surrounded by nothing but ocean. That photograph is Kalanggaman Island in Leyte, and it looks exactly like that in real life. No filters required, no digital enhancement.
What Is Kalanggaman?
Kalanggaman is an uninhabited island located approximately 36 kilometers northwest of Palompon on the west coast of Leyte Island. It is administered as a protected area famous for its spectacular sandbars - one extending north and one extending south from the islands small wooded center. Both sandbars emerge fully at low tide in their full photogenic glory.
