Islas de Gigantes: The Most Beautiful Islands You Have Never Heard Of
If you have been to El Nido, you already know the extraordinary combination of limestone karst formations, turquoise lagoons, and pristine beaches. Now imagine that same landscape - the dramatic rock formations, the hidden coves, the absurdly photogenic sandbars - with almost no tourists, no luxury resorts, and prices from a decade ago. That is Islas de Gigantes in Iloilo Province, and it might be the Philippines most beautiful destination that remains genuinely off the mainstream tourist trail.
Where Are the Gigantes Islands?
The Gigantes archipelago consists of two main islands (Gigantes Norte and Gigantes Sur) plus numerous smaller islets, located approximately 110 kilometers north of Iloilo City. Getting there requires determination: bus from Iloilo City to Estancia (3-4 hours), then a pump boat from Estancia Port to Gigantes Norte (1.5-2 hours). The journey is entirely worth the effort.
Best Experiences
Cabugao Gamay Island
A tiny island with a perfect white sandbar, turquoise water, and a dramatic limestone hill that can be climbed for panoramic views of the surrounding archipelago. This single location justifies the entire journey to Gigantes.

The best beach in the archipelago - a wide stretch of white sand with gradual entry into crystal-clear water backed by coconut groves facing east to beautiful sunrise light.
Tangke Saltwater Lagoon
A brackish lagoon hidden within a ring of limestone karst cliffs accessible by swimming through a narrow cave passage. The lagoon inside is calm, clear, and entirely enclosed by dramatic cliffs - one of the most remarkable natural environments in the entire Philippines.
Pawikan Cave
A sea cave accessible by boat containing a beach inside the cave itself and a colony of cave-dwelling sea turtles that nest on the interior beach. Witnessing turtles nesting inside a cave is an extraordinary wildlife experience.
Practical Information
Gigantes Norte has basic guesthouses (P500-1,200 per night) with generator power in evenings. Island hopping day tours cost approximately P1,500-2,500 per person. Bring this as a digital detox destination. Explore Philippines island hopping experiences to plan your complete Iloilo region journey.
