Cebu Itinerary 5 Days: The Perfect First-Timer Guide

Cebu is one of the Philippines most rewarding destinations precisely because it is so diverse. In five days, you can walk the corridors of a 16th-century Spanish fort, swim alongside the largest fish in the ocean, plunge through mountain canyons, drift above a tornado of a million sardines, and cross to another island to see the Chocolate Hills. You will not be bored. You may not want to leave.

Day 1: Cebu City Heritage and Introduction

Start where Cebu story starts: Magellan Cross in the Basilica Minor del Santo Nino marks the site where Ferdinand Magellan planted a cross in 1521. The basilica, built in 1565, is one of the oldest churches in the country. Nearby, Fort San Pedro is the oldest triangular bastion fort in the Philippines. Entrance is PHP 30. For lunch, try Larsian BBQ near Fuente Osmena. In the afternoon, Tops Lookout on Busay Hill gives a panoramic view of the city. Our Cebu City heritage walking tour covers the main sites with a knowledgeable guide who brings colonial history to life.

Day 2: South Cebu and Oslob Whale Sharks and Tumalog Falls

Set your alarm for 3:00 AM. Drive south to Oslob (about 3 hours). Arrive at Barangay Tan-awan before 6:30 AM, register, and slip into the water as the sun rises. For 30 minutes, you share the sea with whale sharks, the largest fish on earth. After the whale sharks, drive 3 kilometers to Tumalog Falls for a cool swim. Entrance PHP 50.

Day 3: Kawasan Falls Canyoneering or Moalboal Sardine Run

Option A: Kawasan Falls Canyoneering in Badian via our Kawasan canyoneering tour. About 4 to 5 hours of swimming, jumping, and scrambling through a mountain river gorge, ending at the iconic turquoise falls. Most physically demanding day of the five.

Option B: Moalboal Sardine Run at Panagsama Beach: swimming inside a baitball of millions of sardines, spotting sea turtles, possibly adding a trip to Pescador Island. Less physically intense but no less extraordinary underwater.

Day 4: Bohol Day Trip

Take the 6:00 AM fast craft from Pier 1 in Cebu City to Tagbilaran, Bohol (PHP 700 to 900). From Tagbilaran, a van takes you through: Tarsier Conservation Area in Corella, Chocolate Hills viewpoint in Carmen, Loboc River Cruise with lunch buffet. Return ferry at 4:00 or 5:00 PM. Our Cebu to Bohol day trip handles all logistics including ferry tickets and the van.

Day 5: Mactan Island and Beaches

Spend your final day at Mactan Island, near the airport. Hadsan Cove and Maribago Bluewater offer day use for non-guests at PHP 200 to 500. The Mactan Shrine marks the Battle of Mactan (1521) where the local chief Lapulapu killed Ferdinand Magellan, worth a quick visit before your flight.
