Padre Burgos Diving — Whale Sharks & Pristine Reefs

The headline act is the chance to dive with whale sharks in open water — unlike surface snorkel encounters, diving at depth gives you eye-level views of whale sharks cruising the blue water column, often accompanied by remora, cobia, and schools of jacks that spiral around the sharks in shifting formations. The whale sharks in Sogod Bay are wild and free-moving, making close diver encounters consistently extraordinary. Beyond the whale sharks, the diving itself is world-class: steep walls dropping to 50+ metres covered in giant sea fans and black coral trees; coral gardens of such density and health that they rival the best sites in the Coral Triangle; and macro life of extraordinary diversity — pygmy seahorses on sea fans, blue-ringed octopus in crevices, and frogfish in every colour of the spectrum on the rubble slopes.

The dive centre at Padre Burgos runs PADI-certified operations with multilingual instructors and well-maintained equipment. Multiple dives per day are possible, and the diversity of sites — from deep walls to shallow coral gardens to the open-water whale shark sites — means that even three or four days here barely scratches the surface of what Sogod Bay has to offer.
