Islas de Gigantes Diving — Caves, Walls & Pelagic Wildlife
About this tour
The underwater world of Islas de Gigantes is one of the Philippines' best-kept diving secrets. The same limestone formations that create Cabugao Gamay's famous lagoon and Tangke's hidden pool extend below the surface as an intricate system of caves, arches, swim-throughs, and walls that harbour extraordinary marine life — largely unbothered by divers because so few visit with tanks.
The cave dive system inside the main island formations is the headline site: narrow passages through the limestone open into flooded cathedral chambers where the torch beam catches the eyes of cardinal fish hanging motionless in the darkness, then sweeps across walls covered in sponges, tunicates, and Christmas tree worms in a density that surface waters rarely produce. The guide knows the passages well and leads groups through in single file, the cave exit always visible ahead. It is technical enough to be genuinely exciting without requiring full cave certification for the cavern sections.
The outer wall sites face the Sibuyan Sea, where the current-swept conditions that produce excellent visibility also bring pelagic life. The resident sea turtle population at several sites is healthy — multiple individuals circle the reef within a single dive. Schooling barracuda hang in formation in the current, and the open water off the deepest wall sections is monitored for whale shark sightings during the October-May season; encounters are possible but not guaranteed. The total package — cave, wall, reef, pelagic — across two or three dives in a single day makes Gigantes one of the most diverse dive experiences available in the Western Visayas.
