Coron Lake & Island Discovery Tour
About this tour
While Kayangan Lake draws the crowds, Coron's other lakes are equally extraordinary — and far less visited. Barracuda Lake is a geological phenomenon: a saltwater lake connected to the sea via underground passages, with a volcanic heat vent on the bottom that creates dramatic thermoclines. At 5 metres depth the water is 28°C; at 15 metres it suddenly drops to 38°C — a warm band that rises and falls with the tide. Snorkelling through the thermocline is one of the most disorienting and fascinating experiences in Philippine waters.
The tour continues to Atwayan Beach, one of Coron's most beautiful and least visited white-sand beaches, accessible only by sea. The water here is shallow and warm, and the beach curves around a sheltered bay backed by coconut palms — it's what most people imagine the Philippines looks like before they arrive. Lunch is served at the beach before the afternoon snorkel session at Skeleton Wreck, a Japanese cargo ship lying in just 5 metres of water — arguably the best snorkel wreck in Asia for its perfect combination of intact structure, dense marine life, and safety.
The final stop is Pass Island, a small beach perfect for swimming and beach volleyball before the boat returns to Coron town.

About the area
Barracuda Lake was formed when a limestone cave system collapsed and the sea flooded in. The heat vent at depth is connected to the same volcanic activity that created the hot springs on the mainland near Coron town. The lake's unique thermal layers support unusual cold and warm-water species living side by side.
