Clark Hot Air Balloon Festival Experience
About this tour
The Clark International Hot Air Balloon Festival is the Philippines' most visually spectacular annual event and one of the finest balloon festivals in Asia. Held each February at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga — on the grounds of the former Clark Air Base — the festival draws over 100,000 visitors across three days to watch balloons from around the world fill the sky above the wide Pampanga plain with colour.
The must-see event is the dawn mass ascension: arriving before sunrise to watch 50 or more balloons inflated simultaneously in the pre-dawn darkness, then releasing together as the sun clears the Cordillera mountains to the east. The sight of dozens of balloons rising against a pink and gold sky, drifting south over the rice fields and remnants of the old US Air Force base, is the kind of image that has driven this festival onto international bucket lists. Arrive well before 6:00 AM for the full experience — the ascension begins at first light.
Daytime events include aerobatic displays by both civilian and Philippine Air Force aircraft, paragliding demonstrations, model airplane competitions, and a large festival market with Kapampangan food stalls that turn the festival into a substantial food event in its own right. The evening Night Glow is the emotional peak: balloons tethered to the ground are lit from inside their envelopes in sync with music, turning them into enormous glowing lanterns. Against the dark Pampanga sky the effect is breathtaking — photographers from across Asia come specifically for this shot.
