About this tour

Bolinao at the western tip of Pangasinan is one of Luzon's underrated natural destinations, combining waterfalls, limestone caves, a historic lighthouse, and one of the most unusually coloured beaches in the Philippines โ€” all within a few kilometres of each other. This day tour connects the dots efficiently, leaving time to swim at both the falls and the beach.

Bolinao Falls flows through a narrow limestone canyon where three tiers of cascades drop into pools of clear green water. The lower tier is the most accessible: a wide pool with a natural slide and a rope swing attached to a mango tree โ€” the kind of spontaneous, un-touristed waterfall experience that has largely vanished from more crowded Philippine destinations. The surrounding rainforest is home to Philippine eagles, hornbills, and monitor lizards that the guide can help spot.

Cape Bolinao Lighthouse (built 1905, one of the oldest in Luzon) stands at the very western point of Pangasinan, surrounded by a protected marine sanctuary. The adjacent Enchanted Cave is a natural cavern containing a brackish swimming pool lit from above by a skylight โ€” swimming in the turquoise water surrounded by stalactites is as close to an underground grotto experience as the Philippines offers on a day tour. Patar Beach rounds out the afternoon: its rust-red and burnt-orange sand dunes are unlike any other beach in the country, and the sunset views over the South China Sea here are among the finest in Luzon.

Frequently asked questions

Is the falls swimming safe?
The falls pool is calm and shallow enough for non-swimmers to enjoy. Current is gentle near the bank. Life vests available.
What makes Patar Beach sand unusual?
The sand at Patar Beach has a distinctive reddish-orange hue due to iron-rich minerals from the surrounding limestone and volcanic deposits โ€” a striking contrast to typical white Philippine beaches.
