Bohol Firefly Watching + Loboc River Dinner Cruise Couple
About this tour
Fireflies synchronise their blinks — a phenomenon so rare that Bohol's Loboc River is one of only a handful of places in the world where you can witness it. As darkness falls along the river, the mangrove trees on both banks begin to pulse with thousands of fireflies in perfect unison — a curtain of living green light that shifts and ripples as the current carries your boat silently through the darkness.
The evening begins at sunset with a private floating dinner: a banca (traditional river boat) fitted with a candlelit table for two, set up with fresh flowers and proper glassware before you board. Dinner is served as the boat drifts downstream through the golden light of early evening — a four-course Filipino river feast: kare-kare (oxtail in peanut sauce), sinigang na sugpo (prawn in tamarind broth), grilled tilapia, and a coconut dessert. Wine is included.
As dinner concludes, the boat moors in the middle of the river while darkness completes its arrival. Within 20 minutes of full dark, the firefly display begins — thousands of Pteroptyx fireflies in the riverside trees, their cold green light synchronized into waves that pulse across the bank. The guide cuts the boat's light entirely, and you float in the black river as the trees breathe with light on both sides. This is one of the most quietly astonishing experiences in the Philippines — utterly unlike anything else.
