The Perfect 3-Day Bohol Itinerary for 2026 (First-Timer’s Plan)

Bohol is the rare island that does it all: surreal landscapes, adorable wildlife, a lazy river lunch, and proper white-sand beaches — all close enough to see comfortably in three days. It’s my go-to recommendation for first-timers who want a bit of everything without a punishing schedule. Here’s the itinerary I’d hand a friend.

Where to base yourself: Panglao

Stay on Panglao Island, joined to mainland Bohol by two bridges and home to the best beaches in Central Visayas. Alona Beach — a 1.5 km strip on Panglao’s southwest tip — is the hub, packed with dive shops, island-hopping bancas, beach bars and stays for every budget. Hostel dorms start around ₱500, comfy mid-range hotels sit near ₱2,500–₱3,500, and there are beachfront boutiques if you want to treat yourself. Compare Panglao stays here.

Getting there

Fly into Bohol-Panglao (TAG) directly, or — if you’re already in Cebu — hop the fast ferry from Cebu to Tagbilaran. OceanJet and SuperCat run from Cebu Pier 1 every 30–45 minutes; it’s about a 2-hour crossing for roughly ₱800–₱1,200 depending on class. From Tagbilaran it’s a short drive to Panglao.

Day 1 — Arrive & settle into Alona

Land, drop your bags, and ease in with an afternoon on Alona Beach. Swim, grab fresh seafood, watch the sunset. If you’ve got energy, Hinagdanan Cave and the Bohol Bee Farm are easy nearby add-ons. Keep it light — the big days are coming.

Day 2 — The countryside tour (the icons)

This is the classic full-day loop and it’s worth booking as a guided tour (₱around $19–$48 per person shared, more for private) rather than DIY — it’s far more efficient. You’ll hit the Chocolate Hills, meet the wide-eyed tarsiers at an ethical sanctuary, pass through the Man-Made Forest, and glide down the Loboc River on a floating buffet-lunch cruise. Long day, huge payoff. Browse Bohol countryside tours here.

Day 3 — Island hopping & Balicasag

Start early for a boat out to Balicasag Island — turtles and a dramatic coral wall — plus dolphin watching on the way and a stop at Virgin Island’s sandbar. The whole loop runs about 5–6 hours and is usually back by lunch, leaving you time for a final beach afternoon or a massage before your flight.
